I wouldn\u2019t call it a strategy; it is a military-centric approach without strategy,\u201d Katulis told AFP.<\/p><script data-noptimize=\"\" data-wpfc-render=\"false\">\nfpm_start( \"true\" );\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shibley Telhami, a professor of peace and development at the University of Maryland and a fellow at the Brookings Institution think tank, says the threat of a blockade was \u201cbewildering and seems self-defeating.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIran already has no trust in Trump,\u201d Telhami told AFP. \u201cHard to understate what this makes of what\u2019s left of America\u2019s global credibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 \u2018Untrustworthy and duplicitous\u2019 \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran\u2019s powerful Revolutionary Guards on Sunday pledged that Tehran\u2019s enemies would be trapped in a \u201cdeadly vortex\u201d if they were to make a wrong move in the strait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Danny Citrinowicz, a fellow at Israel\u2019s Institute for National Security Studies, said a naval blockade would indeed expose US forces to increased risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is little reason to believe that a blockade would force Iranian capitulation. If anything, Iran\u2019s demonstrated resilience thus far suggests the opposite,\u201d Citrinowicz wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIran\u2019s geographic scale and military capabilities mean that sustaining such an operation would demand substantial and prolonged allocation of American resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And such a prolonged military engagement may not sit well with Americans who say they are worried and stressed about the conflict, which began in late February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A CBS News poll published Sunday revealed that worry, stress and anger far outweigh safety and confidence, when those polled were asked how they feel about the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 80 percent of respondents said the United States should seek to reopen the strait and improve global access to oil, which would bring gas prices down, and make sure that the Iranian people are \u201cfree.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But fewer than 10 percent said they believed those goals had been achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t see how, 40-plus days into this war, that we are safer, that our allies are safer. I\u2019m not even sure Israel is safer,\u201d Democratic US Senator Mark Warner said Sunday on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d talk show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t understand how blockading the strait is going to somehow push the Iranians into opening it.
